Hello!

Those of you who have a bangkirai decking, how satisfied are you with the choice of decking? Does it live up to your expectations?
How has it aged? Any other input perhaps?

Incredibly pleased with that choice! Attaching a couple of before/after pictures from June 2019 to today. It has grayed a bit since being laid in the southern exposure after this past summer. The idea is for it to continue becoming more silvery gray. It has a strong golden-brown color when newly laid, and if you want to maintain it, it might be worth checking with the manufacturer on how to best preserve it (I've heard about specific stains you apply every year).

  • Outdoor decking with a table and wicker chairs, surrounded by greenery and trees, showing the change from a golden brown to a silver-gray tone over time.
  • Outdoor patio with a dark table, four gray woven chairs, and a view of a green garden with trees and a playset in the background.
  • Outdoor patio with dark wicker furniture and white cushions on a wooden deck, white brick wall, and striped awning in a suburban garden setting.
  • A wooden deck with a hot tub, patio furniture, and a child's pool. House exterior in background with a striped awning. Summer setting with greenery.
  • Outdoor deck with gray-toned wooden flooring, modern dark rattan furniture set, and glass railing, showcasing weathering over time.
  • Modern patio with a large black table and wicker chairs on a striped deck, surrounded by glass railing. Tall evergreen tree and houses in the background.

Wow, it looks amazing. Congratulations.

I have kiraitrall on a balcony for 10 years and I'm super satisfied. It becomes dirty and gray like all wood after a few years and even green algae where water has stood, but you can use high pressure directly on the wood without it being negatively affected and it becomes "almost" like new again. I use high pressure every spring and see no signs of aging on the wood. On the patio, I have regular pressure-treated wood and it's hopeless to maintain in a good way.

Kind regards,
/CC

According to the manufacturer, you should not use high pressure, are you possibly spraying from a sufficient distance maybe?

I go very close in certain places, but about 10cm. As mentioned, it works, but maybe there is different quality from different importers? I have bought everything from Interwood in Gbg. By the way, I also have kirai on posts and top rails, as well as on a self-built hammock and around the spa as well. I use a pressure washer for everything.

Look at that! Might try it gently and see what happens, do you possibly have pictures of how it looks and can upload?

If I have time to do laundry tomorrow, I can post some before/after pictures.

Hi! Did you get a chance to upload some pictures? I'm curious!

Hi, here are some before/after pictures of the balcony that I didn't clean last season. Also, see the video where we clean the mahogany cap rail. Very effective with high pressure on hard woods like kirai and mahogany, but should be avoided on pine, birch, cedar, and be cautious with medium-hard woods such as teak. I would think it works on oak as well, but haven't tested it myself.
Regards,
/CC A wooden balcony deck with visible grooves and moss, before cleaning. Stainless steel railing post and view of outdoor furniture in background. View of a weathered balcony with wooden flooring leading outside through an open glass door. The railing has a glass pane and a simple design. Mahogany handrail partially cleaned with high-pressure washing, showing contrast between cleaned and uncleaned sections. Glass panel and garden in the background. Mahogany railing on a balcony with visible cleaning marks, surrounded by outdoor furniture and trees in the background. Freshly cleaned hardwood balcony flooring with wet glass railing under clear sunlight, showcasing the effect of pressure washing on the surface.

The balcony is about 12 years old, but washing and then oiling the mahogany railing makes it like new. I only wash the Kirai deck, no oil, I did it one year but it got so dark.

Nice! I see you have the coarser bangkirai, it can probably handle a bit more in the grooves, I'll try with the pressure washer too but quite gently to start with.

Now I've washed the mess! Used a Kärcher K7 with the accompanying terrace cleaner, under the glass railing it had to be with scrubbing brush yellow soap, here are some pictures
Funnily enough, after washing it looks exactly like new! It hasn't grayned at all!

  • Freshly cleaned wooden deck with glass railing, outdoor furniture stacked on the table, and lush green garden in the background. Looks as good as new.

Nice! But wait until it has dried before you cheer.....
