I'm going to build a new deck with a roof, but I'm a bit unsure about the material and dimensions. I'm going to dig down supports and have posts for the roof, but I also plan to install glass later, so I don't want the posts to obstruct the glass. The deck is 8x3.5, 3.5 from the house. The glazing will be 5x3.5 on one side. I was thinking of placing three supports at the front for the glazed part and putting posts on these to attach the ledger for the rafters, and then two more supports for the remaining deck at the far end, and also placing three supports in the middle just for the floor. That makes 8 supports in total. Would this be sufficient, and what size should I use for the floor joists and rafters, and do they need to be pressure-treated? Thanks for all the answers.

A sketch of the patio construction would probably help. When you say that 8 piers are all that's needed for an 8*3.5=28 sqm patio, I get a bit skeptical. We built a patio of about 45 sqm, and then I had about 25 - 30 piers and a load-bearing beam in the house facade, so I find it hard to see how you manage with 8 piers that also need to be stable enough to enclose with glass.
I think 8 pillars sound reasonable. Bolt a 45x170 to the house wall and then you have two rows of pillars outside of that. If you use 45x170, it will support without problems with the pillars at a distance of 170cm. Maybe you should go with 5 pillars per row, so 10 pillars in total. You brace, of course.
