Dare to drill with a hammer drill in a plaster ceiling?
Hello! The house is from 1945 with a plaster ceiling, and when I use a regular drill with a concrete bit, I get in 2-3 cm, and then it stops completely. I can't go any further. Unfortunately, that's not enough for the plugs I have and the lamps I want to install. Now I'm considering renting a hammer drill to drill proper holes. However, I'm worried that the plaster might crack or even come off the ceiling. How justified is that concern? Should I call everything off and simply find other lamps, etc., or can I go ahead with the hammer drill? If yes, is it better to drill thin holes (use a 4-5 mm thick bit), or does it make no difference?
Additional info: the ceiling in the apartment looks nice, no cracks or anything.

Hi! Renting out a hammer drill/rotary hammer shouldn't be a big problem. Gently tap the plaster around where you intend to drill with something. If it sounds hollow, you probably shouldn't use a hammer drill; otherwise, it should be fine.
Okay, I'll remember to knock before I drill. Thanks for the tip!
