Cut trellis

We have a trellis in the hallway around the stairs to the recreation room. Since the hallway now feels very cramped, I'm thinking of cutting the trellis and just keeping it as a railing around the stairs. I'm wondering how to cut it the easiest way, can a reciprocating saw be used or will it be too coarse and uneven?

Is it enough to keep the first trellis board whole to have as a floor-to-ceiling post to stabilize the trellis, or are there other/better solutions? It would look nicer without it, but I assume it would be too unstable.

What should be used as a handrail?

Screw (or clamp) a board on each side of the trellis at the right height and place the blade against them and saw. It works well with the reciprocating saw if you take it easy.

I would probably rather opt for the fogsvans for a bit more controlled practice.

Which överliggare you should have depends quite a bit on personal preference and taste.
