Can someone explain why my newly laid floor creaks? The surface underneath is even and I have used both tarkofoam and a vapor barrier. I have then nailed the floor moldings right up against the floor without any gap whatsoever. I don't know why it creaks. Hope someone can help me.

is it the underlayment or the floor itself? and is it a wooden floor or laminate flooring? no squeaks, no creaks anywhere before you laid the floor? absolutely sure?

It is laid on a concrete floor, wood click flooring. It's only in the edges that it creaks. If you remove the skirting board, it doesn't seem to creak.

of course. hence the vapor barrier. missed that. so it's only against the walls it creaks? short ends as well as long ends? if it's the short side, maybe you haven't clicked it together properly and it hasn't locked completely, and therefore it's not entirely in position and creaks. otherwise, unfortunately, I have a few more ideas.

What is the distance between the floor and the wall (assuming it's a floating floor)?

I have about 2 cm

Oh, what kind of baseboards are you going to have then?

We figured out what it was. On the side of the trim that is placed against the floor, some paint had dripped on it, so that's what was causing the friction and noise. Just remove the trims and sand off the paint.
