Hello friends!
I know this forum is meant for House building, hence the name, but you are all so incredibly knowledgeable so I'm asking a question here that doesn't belong anyway.
We are looking at a house we are thinking of buying but have some considerations beforehand. The house has a crawl space, something I haven't encountered before (maybe because I've lived in an apartment) and I'm wondering what this is, why one builds with a crawl space, and what the risks and advantages of this are.
Thank you in advance!

Crawl space is significantly cheaper than slab on grade, which contributes to many preferring it.

Crawl space is great if you want to renovate and maybe move a toilet/sink, etc., since it's super easy to just run new pipes! There are many pros and cons with both crawl space and slab. For more info, it’s probably best if you do a bit of Googling.

I think the above response is good with good links to read. We had a basement and now have a crawl space. With a basement, we constantly had a concern about the risk of moisture entering the house and needed to break up the floor to replace plumbing. Now with a crawl space, plumbing work has been fairly smooth since all pipes can be reached from underneath. We have moisture "problems," but they are kept at bay with plastic and a dehumidifier.

In this house, the crawl space has also been frequently used over the years to run various cabling. Also an advantage.
