Hello!

I have a doorway (interior door) where it doesn't fit at all with the current furniture arrangement, and I'm thinking about closing it off. I concluded that the easiest way would be to cover the entire wall with plasterboard (a 3.6m long wall) so that the doorway remains if I decide to rearrange the furniture and want to open it up again. Additionally, this way I avoid the hassle of trying to match the textured wallpaper, which I believe is difficult to find.

So my question is, how many layers of plasterboard and how thick does the plasterboard need to be for this?

Off the top of my head, I think it's better to use two layers of plasterboard to minimize the risk of something breaking through the plaster where the doorway used to be.

On the wall, I will then want to mount a TV, though that will be where the existing wall already is. Currently, that wall consists of a plasterboard on top of a chipboard (or something similar). Is this possible if I use two layers of plasterboard? So, three layers of plasterboard + chipboard altogether?

Any other thoughts/ideas?

The easiest way is probably just to hang a nice curtain over the door, but I know that wasn't your question. Can't you find the studs in the wall to mount the TV on?

Another option is to let the doorway become a really nice built-in shelf where you can place decorative items or DVDs, display pictures or such if you happen to not have any books left over.

I've had a curtain now for a couple of years but it never looks quite nice :/ Also, a small part of the doorway area is needed for the TV, so a shelf probably won't work well either.

I understand, one last suggestion to save you as much work - can't you place the TV on a stand like in the old days? So you can avoid all the remodeling? There are quite stylish and practical ones that I'm considering myself...

Hello!
Did the same thing myself. However, with a simple gypsum board, lightly framed in the doorway before......

Should have done like Mercruiser. Add some framing in the door opening, maybe put an extra gypsum board there if it fits, then use single gypsum board over the entire area. But, how does it look on the other side of the door?

Yes, it would be interesting to know!
What kind of room is there, how thick is the wall, how are the door frame and molding made?
Maybe a picture too.
Because I think it seems overkill to put new plaster on the whole wall. How big is it by the way?

Yes, it might be more appropriate to put some studs in the opening and then just a sheet of plaster on top. It will probably be a bit cheaper as well.

The wall is about 2.4m x 2.7m, so not very large.

On the other side of the wall is the kitchen where I will also put plaster.

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the whole thing right now.

EDIT: the wall is about 10cm thick. If I take off the casings, everything is level with the wall.
