I was thinking of a vertical hammarband. And then the two rafters, one end of which falls between two posts, can safely rest on the hammarband if it is of the correct dimension.

But what dimension?

Yes... actually... or call it "standing", then?
I've seen both "vertical" and "standing" in building descriptions online.
