We are thinking of converting part of the garage into a room that we will access by opening up a wall in our house. The garage is attached to the house, so we are planning to knock down the wall and open up between the garage and the house.
The garage is slightly lower than the house, so my idea is to build the room on beams, but I'm wondering how best to insulate?
The "floor" in the garage today is asphalt, so my idea was to remove the asphalt and possibly dig out 20 - 30 cm and then lay down tiles and some form of extra insulation if needed? We initially looked at pouring a slab over the entire garage, but that would be too expensive given that the garage already stands as it is.
But if I now build the foundation on 45 x 170 beams with subfloor, insulation, and moisture-proof plastic or whatever it's called, do I need any additional insulation under this, or should I do something else? We live in the Stockholm area, and the room will be approximately 3 x 4 meters in size.
