Some über-sweeps can be difficult when it comes to non-"type-approved" inserts. This is despite them being EU-approved.
They probably want to show their power.
Check with your local sweep over a fika, and maybe he'll warm up. :-/

CE marked or what?? That doesn't guarantee they are tested according to the applicable regulations (Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning Regulations), however, there is a new European marking that shows how much temperature a chimney should withstand for a certain fireplace etc., but that marking has hardly started and probably not on any "cheap" Polish inserts.Immobil said:
Or to ensure that you and your entire family don't burn inside because you chose a fireplace that gives 450 degrees when your chimney can only withstand 350.......Immobil said:
hmm..
My municipality (Huddinge) requires a building notification for installation. They only approve type-approved ones.. The chimney sweeper also wanted to see that I had a building notification..
Approved thing is some kind of environmental gadget among other things...
Perhaps the easiest is to call the chimney sweeper and check.. he knows..

Yes, because not as much "cold" air mixes with the fire/smoke gases cooling them before they reach the chimney. An insert with doors draws in approximately 5-10% of the air during burning, plus the material, which is usually cast iron, stores a lot of heat.
An insert (provided that there are doors that can be closed) leads to much higher flue gas temperatures than an open fireplace. That's why I think it's a bit unfair to blame some "über-sweep who wants to show their power" and who is easy to criticize when there is more behind this. After all, it is very hot in the flue and it seems unnecessary for houses to burn down and people to be trapped inside because the risks with the heat that can spread from the fireplace or chimney are ignored.
