I have started sketching a framework for a possible extension and have a couple of initial questions. Can anyone answer any of them?

1. Do you place the floor joist as I've drawn on the short sides? Or is it correct on the long sides, but on the short side, do you place the upper floor directly on the lower floor and start with the first floor joist right inside? (Which results in the wall studs being longer on the short side). This way, you get good support for the chipboard. (perhaps better for insulation too?).

2. Blocking pieces are often used in the outer sections of the floor. Why is that done? You don't get edge support closest to the wall anyway.

3. Can you place the upper floor on top of the floor as shown in the picture below? That is, only longitudinal support solely by the rim joist and no blocking pieces. It seems simplest to me, and it also shows here that you can do that:

But at the same time, they also show the picture in the link below where they suggest double layers with insulation between, which seems more complicated, plus it says that the wall and floor should be of the same dimension then:

To question 1, this is what I meant if it's a better method?
