Need to do something about our old patio door. Originally, it had regular pine as filling, but when we bought the house, there was a cat flap in the door that we removed, and I then replaced everything with 12 mm plywood. I now want to tidy up the door with a panel on the outside that I plan to trim the edges of and paint. I was considering MDF, but it's not very moisture resistant. Any other suggestions?

  • Old wooden patio door with chipped paint and a repaired panel, sitting above a small wooden step.

Could work. The door originally had some kind of panel.

Just put a guard at the bottom then, possibly in metal or some nice metal part to protect the bottom and lower part of the board or whatever you put there.

Maybe facade Cembrit and a flashing at the bottom edge.

As mentioned earlier, place a piece of sheet metal at the bottom edge of the board and the door will stay nice for a long time.
This is how my patio door looks like. White patio door with a metal strip installed at the bottom, viewed from a wooden deck.
