Hello,

I haven't come up with a good solution for how the roofing felt should connect under and on the side of the balcony door. The roof is about 4-5 cm below the threshold at the door, which makes me worried that if the connection isn't absolutely tight, water will seep into the wall behind (in winter when the snow starts to melt, 4-5 cm won't be enough).

There's a slope of 1:36, which is why roofing felt seems to be the "only" solution economically. Under the balcony, we have an insulated hallway. The balcony has previously had double-folded sheet metal that's started to leak.

Should I wedge the roofing felt between the wall/floor and the frame with some kind of expanding sealing strip that connects to the metal frame of the balcony door and then cover everything with trim?

What do I do with the lower corners on both sides where the roofing felt needs to be cut at an angle to fold in? It should probably be overlapped and smeared generously with some compound - but how and with what?

I've tried to get a roofer to come and look at it, but the one I had an appointment with didn't show up, so I thought I'd check if it might be possible to do it myself.......

Grateful for help!

I mean waterproofing membrane and not roofing felt.

Is there no one who has encountered this problem and could come up with a solution? This connection is not unique, often the balcony door frame is a few cm above the roof surface - if nothing else, it's due to accessibility requirements that say the level differences to the balcony must not exceed 20mm.

Hello!
The thread is admittedly old, but I'm hijacking it because I have a similar problem.
How did you solve the problem? I have even less space between the ceiling and the threshold.
The floor only has a 3˚ slope.

I would place a piece of cardboard under the threshold that goes out towards the roof. Then I would prop up the threshold a bit and seal between the threshold and the cardboard strip. We often do this with balcony doors in new construction. Does the threshold have a groove for an external threshold plate? If so, one should be installed as well.
