Dimension 6 x 100. Drilled a 6 mm hole as instructed. The screw goes in a couple of turns, then it gets really tight, and when I applied more force, it just snapped. Is a larger hole needed, or what else could be wrong?
Had you drilled a hole so that the threads were free from the support beam?

Concrete screws are installed with impact.

The simplest option would be to use nail plugs.
