I'm going to install a coat rack on a drywall. I MUST install the shelf into the studs that are 60 cm apart.
BUT the distance between the screw holes in the shelf is 72.2 cm apart.
How do I solve this, I want this particular coat rack.
I must add that I'm quite amateurish at this :o

There are two reasonable options.
1. Place one side in the stud and the other side with a molly plug.
2. Mount a planed plank horizontally in the right wood type/color on the wall. Screw this plank into two studs, then screw the hat rack into the plank!

I have to put it in the reglarna, otherwise the wall won't hold (according to my self-proclaimed know-it-all partner :p)
The idea of a horizontal plank might be a good one!

Both the hat rack in our new house and the one in our old house are mounted with metal expanders (molly plugs) and there has never been the slightest problem. The hat racks are attached with four fastenings and are about 1m wide.

A horizontal plank is a solution, but it's the vertical supports in the hat rack that bear the most weight. All the surface area between the hat rack and the wall must be in contact with the substrate.

We attached ours to a bracket on one side and the other side with a molly. So far it's still holding up, and we've loaded it quite heavily this winter with coats and a lot of heavy winter clothes. I would guess that the first thing to break in our case would be the hat shelf itself and not the wall.

Aha, maybe it will have to be attached to ONE board then and molly in the other end.
