I have a house that has just been additionally insulated, and I am also working on the inside with plasterboarding. My question is about the presence or absence of a vapor barrier where the outer wall meets the chimney in a corner and where there is also a stove. It feels like it will be difficult to seal the building plastic against the chimney, and perhaps it is less advantageous to have a "leaking" vapor barrier at the stove than to have none at all?

I placed sauna foil as a vapor barrier next to our chimney stack. This foil is designed to withstand higher temperatures than regular plastic. First, I applied a line of butyl sealant, which also withstands high temperatures, pressed the foil into the sealant, and then taped the foil with T-emballage T-flex for vapor barriers, which adheres to various materials and withstands high temperatures. Do you have the stove connected to the chimney stack or did it have its own pipe? I’m not sure how well my method works against a stove pipe, I suspect it gets significantly hotter than a chimney stack.

What I described was how I sealed the vapor barrier in the attic floor against the chimney. Our chimney stands in the middle of the house, so the outer wall is no problem. But if the chimney had been by the wall, I would have just pulled the plastic against it and sealed it the same way as in the floor.
 
My chimney stands by the outer wall, it's where the outer wall meets the chimney.
