I would either have made a frame around the beam and clad the frame or glued it.
The reason for this is that extra holes in the beam weaken it (probably inconsequential but)
Yeah exactly, I became skeptical when one of the carpenters talked about his stud shooter when I've had a civil engineer who talked a lot about strength, etc. before buying the right beams, hehe. I have to hurry up and glue some boards before he comes back.
