I have a ceiling beam that will remain in the new kitchen.
It would suffice as it is if it weren't glued together from several longitudinal boards/planks, which is visible from the side and not so nice in my opinion.
The desired end result is for it to look like solid wood and preferably in the whitewashed direction. The ceiling will be painted white gypsum board.
Suggestions for an attractive solution?
(The question may also apply to the standing beam)
It partly depends on what style the room overall should have.
If it should be rustic, you could cover the beam in beadboard, which is whitewashed.
I had a similar beam in a house, and it got wallpaper on the sides, the same as on the walls.
And the underside got a clear-lacquered "window trim," which matched the baseboards and window recesses and trims.
So if you are going to have painted walls, you can paint the beam in the same color and put a trim on the underside.
I had a similar one in the previous house, wrapped it in planed pine because the lady wanted it, 1 week later she wanted it white, painted it, 1 week later that wasn't good enough either, plaster and wallpaper became the final layer. That was satisfactory.
