I've plastered a new interior wall on the staircase down to the basement (which has its own entrance from outside the house). I'm considering the choice of finish on the plasterboards. Just painting the new wall with paint doesn't seem durable enough since the basement is mostly used for storage, meaning things are carried up and down, potentially causing quite a lot of bumps and unsightly holes in the walls over time.

Therefore, I'm considering covering the plaster walls with another material that is easy to apply, durable, and cheap. I've thought about woven wallpaper and inexpensive laminate flooring to nail up. I've tried to find rubber floor tiles to glue on, but only found expensive options.

Can anyone recommend a good and affordable solution?

It's an area of about 15 square meters.

Woven wallpaper is durable, but if you choose a patterned variety, it's difficult to repair if the weave gets damaged; plastering rarely provides the same texture as the weave.
