Hello! Now I'm going to plaster my basement wall, we've just bought the house and the previous owner just applied regular filler, renovation wallpaper, and paint on the concrete, which caused the moisture to remain. The house is otherwise drained. Now I've removed and knocked off all the old filler and loose mortar, concrete. How should I proceed now? I need some kind of filler before I start the actual plastering. I’m considering using lime plaster as the top layer. But what should I fill with before the plaster itself? Pros/cons between different brands of plaster? Tips and tricks? Feel free to give ideas on plaster/mortar that are suitable for a basement environment.

  • Basement wall with old plaster removed, exposing damaged concrete. Debris on stairs beside renovation tools and multi-colored wall hooks above.
  • Old basement wall with peeling plaster and exposed concrete, debris on black stairs from renovation work, as part of a discussion on suitable wall treatments.
  • Damaged basement wall with peeling wallpaper and exposed plaster, near a staircase and coat rack with colorful hooks.
  • Peeling paint and deteriorated plaster on a basement wall beside stairs, showing exposed concrete and unfinished renovation work.
the important thing is that it can breathe, regular lime mortar is fine, it is fine to paint but one should not use wallpaper or filler on it
