Hello,

I previously had a decent experience with Byggmax decking screws. The other day, I bought a bucket of chipboard screws at Byggmax. You'd have to search far and wide to find more worthless screws. You end up having to grind away with the screwdriver for about 10 seconds before it starts drilling, and the fit to the bits is so poor that every 5th screw has to be discarded because the driver loses grip before the screw is in.

I then bought Gunnebo screws at Jula, which were also cheap (though double the price of Byggmax) and they work as expected.

The Byggmax screws turned out to work decently if you first drill with a 2.5 mm bit, but surely that can't be the intention?

A "price-conscious" ??? friend of mine is only interested in the lowest price when he buys stuff. The chipboard screw used, he first nailed it into the chipboard.

I am completely amazed. I got a box of gunnebo and was going crazy with the screw. It jammed and the fit bits/screw was completely worthless.

Then I bought Byggmax particleboard screws and I'm absolutely thrilled. Easy to screw, no impact. What could be the difference?

Are they the transparent plastic boxes you bought or?

No, it was a white plastic bucket. 500 pack.

The biggest issue seems to be that they're not sharp enough at the tip. The Gunnebo screw also has a small cut on the foremost threads that makes it cut better.

As I said, I have good experience with their screws before; maybe I should consider returning them.

Byggmax changes screw brands from time to time. Most recently, they had transparent buckets with handles.

I've used that one too. Works well. Better than Biltema's in a cardboard box, it has a poor head and bends if you press too hard...

If you buy screws at Byggmax for a longer period, you'll notice that they apparently change suppliers now and then. Even if the packaging looks the same, the screws can be completely different. So it's hard to say if they are good or bad - it varies. For example, I bought farm screws from a "real" metal wholesaler. They were completely hopeless to get through the metal. As usual, I was missing a few, so I had to supplement at Byggmax. (They were about half the price.) Those screws were great!

Bought my screws at ByggMax and they worked really well, the packaging was then in orange cardboard.

Also bought deck screws at ByggMax but they were totally worthless, a mental breakdown was near after an experience with them. >:(

Hmm their quality must really be inconsistent. I've used up two packs of decking screws and think they've been really good. I'll hurry to buy a third pack before they have time to change suppliers.

Almost looks like we should set up a thread with daily notes for the Buildmax screw assortment.

The bad ones I have will have to stand in a corner as a backup. If you don't have any, you can put up with pre-drilling.

Bought a pack of decking screws at Byggmax last summer. They worked well then, I thought.
Now, a year later, it turns out the screws are starting to break >:(
The planks on the porch are no longer secured because the screws have broken.

Breaking off, yes. But all at once for me. I snapped two 6x120 mm wood screws with countersunk heads from Byggmax yesterday. It was Novafix. Another thing that's bad about Novafix is that the bits often fit really poorly, to put it bluntly. PZ 2 is too small and PZ 3 too large for Novafix 4x25 with a domed head. At least in the box I bought.

They used to have Heco Fix (orange box) at Byggmax, which I personally think is much better than Novafix. Some may disagree, but that's what I think.

I have just finished laying 90-95 sqm of chipboard flooring with the exact Chipboard screws you described in the white-transparent boxes. (500 pack). It has taken two and a half packs, and I must say I am extremely satisfied with them. Cheap, good fit, and easy to work with.
