I am planning to install a larger patio door on the long side of the house. The house is a one-story with a basement, and the walls are plank walls. The idea is to remove the current patio door and install a new one just next to it, centered with the house. What I am wondering is if anyone can advise me on what type of beam and dimension I need to install? I have limited space above the door as there are electrical wires there, and I'd rather not tinker with that. Is a lightweight beam an option?
