Chain instead of downpipe????

We are considering installing chains instead of downspouts on our newly constructed holiday home. Does anyone have experience with this? Do they work even if there is a bit more rain load? The ones I've seen have been on, like, patio roofs or similar.

Of course, the facade will get splashed during heavier rainfall.
The fact that they are located by terraces can probably be explained by the absence of a facade.

I have it on my garage roof, works only up to moderate rain then it goes off.
