I am planning to demolish an interior wall. The wall is not a load-bearing wall for the house itself, but it might be for the ceiling (I think). The house originally had a ceiling height of 4.5 meters but it was lowered to 2.2 m several years ago. The wall I want to demolish supports that ceiling. The ceiling is built on joists that span from outer wall to outer wall, and then there is paneling as the ceiling. I have made a simple sketch. The wall with a door opening is the one to be removed.
Now to my main concern... Do you think I can install a glued laminated beam and avoid having a pillar in the middle? I would prefer to avoid that... Or could it possibly work with a solid beam of 180x180 mm... I happen to have one lying around...
I would gladly accept tips and suggestions...
I can add that the room will be 9 meters wide and 4.5 meters deep... The wall to be removed is 3 meters from an outer wall... So it’s 3 meters to one outer wall and 6 to the other...
