I actually have a two-part question :)

The roof of our porch consists only of beams, battens, and roof tiles (so there is no ceiling). Is this common in old or for that matter new houses?

If I were to put up a ceiling, how "sturdy" should it be made? Do I need to use inner paneling, oilboard, underlay felt, etc... Or would it be enough to put up the ceiling directly under the battens?

If I were to make it period-appropriate (the house is from the late 1800s), how would I do it then?

Maybe it became a three-part question ;)

Thankful for answers

No one who has a clue?? Or even has a "farstukvist"?
