I have received a quote for roof paneling that states it is Pine class III. I have tried googling to understand wood species and their classes. Does anyone have a good reference or can simply describe the different classes?

Here are the references:

Class and sort function similarly and are available from class 1-6. In short, Class 1 wood is of the best quality (visually inspected) with the least number and distribution of:
  • knots
  • compression wood
  • cracks
  • resin wood
  • wane
  • ropey wood
  • resin pockets
  • fungal attacks
  • bark distortion
  • deformation
  • sweep
  • insect damage
  • grain slant
  • discoloration
  • top breakage
  • handling damage
  • reaction wood
  • dimensional deviations
