I am planning to go and buy myself a wardrobe for the hallway in this model http://www.ikea.com/se/sv/catalog/products/S99932856/#/S59932858 (but with a white frame). Then I thought about making a ceiling connection to this, partly because I think it could look nice but also to hide the wiring to the lighting in the wardrobe.

On the left side of the wardrobe, there is a wall but on the other side, it is open.

The plan was to put a cover panel on the right side all the way up to the ceiling and then trim a piece of board to go over the wardrobe itself with a couple of beams behind. To my dismay, it seems that there are no cover panels in IKEA's range tall enough (252cm) to reach the ceiling.

A small sketch:
Sketch of a wardrobe installation plan showing dimensions, a cover panel labeled "Täcksida," and the placement of materials and panels for a ceiling connection.

- Do you have any tips on where to get a cover side that is longer but still reasonably color-matched with IKEA's PAX frames?
- Do you have any other ideas on how to make a nice ceiling connection on my wardrobe?

The ceiling connection isn't really the problem, go ahead with your plan :)

But why do you want a cover panel next to the wardrobe, why not just leave it open to the wall? How wide should the cover panel be? Is it supposed to connect to the next wall? It might be an alternative to look at an Elfa wardrobe that can be customized to fit wall-to-wall, buy doors and ready-made panels and build the wardrobe yourself, so it might not be more expensive either ;)

The issue with cover panels in matching colors depends a bit on the color of the wardrobe. You can go to a hardware store and see what they have, maybe wallpaper something nice on it or paint, or apply foil in a matching color to the wardrobe. There are quite a few foils with wood imitations, etc., available these days. I've used some that match wood very well.

The idea was that it would be a simple way to get a smooth, attractive surface all the way from floor to ceiling. The board would need to be about 60 cm wide. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea though...

I looked at Elfa wardrobes but unfortunately, they were 2-3 times more expensive, so it will have to be Ikea.
