I'm planning to set up a shelving system in the storage area of my future garage. I intend to keep the construction simple. The frame will consist of 45x45 studs. I plan to use 45x45 cross supports for each shelf. For the shelves, I plan to use standard decking boards, 28x120.
The question is, how far apart can the studs be where the decking rests?
It's hard to specify exactly how much each shelf should hold. General storage of tools plus anything else you can imagine storing away. The heaviest items will, of course, be on the floor.
What would you suggest for the center-to-center distance?
