Hi, I am planning to cast a concrete tabletop with dimensions 900 x 1300 mm, but I'm trying to figure out how thick it needs to be. The idea is for it to stand on two trestles that are 450mm wide (Ikea Lerberg, see attached image). It will of course be reinforced, but my question is whether I also need to build a frame to support the slab or how thick I need to make it for it to be self-supporting?

Thankful for help,

I have cast concrete countertops at 3.5 cm. It was fairly problem-free. It is quite difficult to cast thinner:

Difficult to insert reinforcement; if it is close to the surface, rust spots will appear.

The slab can bend as it cures. It's important for the process to be even, water, cover with plastic.

There is a greater risk of cracking.

That said, it is certainly possible. Use expansion concrete, thin reinforcement, and be very careful with plastic, water. Carry carefully!

Good luck!

Working on exactly the same project right now. For my part, it will be a welded frame that bolts onto the sawhorses. See picture
