The marking in the image indicates a planned retaining wall that will also support the upcoming deck. Initially, I thought of pouring footings/foundation and building with leca, but that might not be the simplest solution...

How would you have done it?

Red outline on a sloped ground by a house marks the future retaining wall for a planned deck project. Trees and scattered bricks are visible.

I poured a foundation and built a retaining wall with Leca. It worked pretty easily, probably cheaper/simpler. Make sure to have a proper Leca band saw (a saber saw creates dust and gets dull). For that, I would make a solid buttress in the middle. I would probably also anchor the foundation into the rock. I plan to put a Byggmax "platon" mat behind it for moisture protection and plaster the front, maybe that's something to consider.

Thanks for the response. Yes, a counterfort feels necessary. It doesn't feel right to connect the wall with the house, so I'll place foam insulation in between. A counterfort closest to the house and one in the middle feels good. On the backfill side, I'll put a layer of isodrän since I'm going to have it against the house anyway. Plaster sounds like overkill, will be under the terrace anyway? I think that slamming should suffice?

Yes, in that case, plastering should be enough. It's just to prevent rain from entering the lecan. But you probably need something tight on the backside so there isn't water pressure against the wall. Isodrän is probably good as a drainage layer but might become totally soaked? I mixed in some frost and water protection agent in the mortar, and reinforced all the layers except the top one. There should probably be an air gap against the house. Drainage pipes under the wall or cutouts in the first layer (no mortar between a couple of blocks at the bottom) to allow water to escape.

Maybe overkill, but it doesn't cost much to fix these things :)

Became a retaining wall in finja skalblock with counterfort.

How did you make the counterfort?

It would also be fun to see some pictures, both of the work and the result. I am going to build a number of retaining walls myself in the coming years so I am gathering inspiration and knowledge.

A retaining wall under construction with grey concrete blocks and exposed rebar on a sloped dirt area.
"I" in this case is help from craftsmen... Same stone everywhere.
