Strange question and I don't know how to formulate it, but I'll try. As a new homeowner, a lot of strange thoughts come up in the evenings...

If one of my load-bearing basement exterior walls (or load-bearing interior walls for that matter) were to become compromised in some way - can these be recast? Let's say a concrete wall in the basement gets serious cracks or crumbles for some reason or otherwise loses its load-bearing capacity - can this be repaired? How is it done? Does it ever happen that basement walls are recast or rebuilt in an existing house?

I don't have any of these problems - I'm just curious about things related to houses now that I own one. Sometimes I just like the knowledge that "if that were to happen, it can be fixed and the house will be like new again."

Fortunately, it is rare for load-bearing basement walls to become so deteriorated that they need to be redone. Should it occur, there is a solution. It is significantly more common for the foundation of basement walls to be so poor that it needs reinforcement. This can become costly if you are unlucky and have soil with poor load-bearing capacity.

of course it works. If you can travel to the moon, fixing a wall shouldn't be a bigger problem. In the worst case, you might have to lift away the house temporarily. That works too. Usually, you can just prop it up and make necessary repairs as best as you can. It's not a big problem to tear down a wall and cast new if that's even necessary.

That's about what I was thinking - if a load-bearing basement wall becomes so bad that it's no longer sufficient - can you temporarily stabilize the house, demolish it, and recast it? Understandably, as an ordinary layperson, you never hear about such repairs, which is why I wondered if it's even possible.

The only thing that doesn't work is små barn.
