Can the countertop withstand this weight?
At the top, there will be a TV that weighs around 80-90kg (36" CRT). The countertops are 40mm solid (beech that I have stained), and the "posts" are laminated wood pillars, 90x90mm. My main concern is that the top shelf might break in the middle or something similar, causing the TV to fall to the floor and potentially hit someone who happens to be there. Is there any risk or am I overly worried?
If anyone is wondering, the video games and decoder will be at the bottom. I would rather have the TV there, but then I have no space for the video games.

It's holding.
I assume the TV is almost as wide as the bench, which means the weight is distributed over most of the surface as well. I assume that even if you stand on this construction, it holds without any issues, and probably the TV isn't much heavier than you are.

A TV usually has feet or similar that it stands on and they press out at the corners.
My 32" CRT stands on a significantly weaker piece of furniture and it came from the TV manufacturer so it should be fine.

Neatly crafted. How did you join the legs and the bench top?

The legs are only attached to the top panel, so the top with legs rests loosely on the lower panel.
I drilled holes in both the legs & panel, applied wood glue & a wooden dowel in each hole. It holds like stone when dried. I attached the lower panel with set glue in the "box".
Hmm, how should I respond...there is a staircase under the box, so there's a slanted ceiling. There was a smaller box underneath, but I framed it and put new plaster. I'll upload another picture soon.Tabors39 said:
