Can I cut this beam to make a bigger room.
This beam is located in a dormer that they have built. And I want to expand the area of the room. As I was tearing down, I noticed that the old ceiling was still in the dormer. So I've started to remove the old ceiling. But this beam scares me a bit. I am going to put an H-beam against the chimney to support the dormer, but I want to remove everything visible in the picture.
Can I cut the beam in the middle and remove what extends to the right of it?
Everything under the beam is hanging loose.

A bit difficult to understand how the construction looks and which of the beams you mean. But you don’t insert beams for fun; it's because they are needed. When intervening in a load-bearing structure, you must submit a building notification to the municipality and detail how the roof loads, etc., will be supported instead, which may require hiring a structural engineer.
This is a page about roof trusses, which also addresses how to modify a roof truss when making a dormer, and there are some other relevant links:

Okay, thanks. It's a high beam, but they have cut off the support legs for it. The slightly darker, thicker one that goes across the image.
I’m sending two pictures.
It's a high beam for the old roof, which was there before I bought the house. And when I started demolishing, I noticed that the support legs for it were hanging loose.
In any case, I would like to open it up to use that space for the room, or alternatively build a doorway in as a closet. The beam will go on another wall that supports the dormer, which I intend to reinforce.
I’m attaching more pictures here. Thank you so much for the response; everything is appreciated.
The blue area shows the support legs.
Where it is marked on picture two, I want an opening.
What is shown in picture 1 is where the beam will stand when I move out the wall.
The question is if I can cut the beam that goes diagonally across the image.
Thank you
Let's imagine I don't intend to apply for a building permit. How would I proceed then?BirgitS said:
