Hello.
We are planning to build a 60 sqm garage this summer and wanted to hear from you if it's worth it to go and pick up building materials (timber, foundation supplies, insulation, garage doors, etc.) abroad. Which country is recommended? I've heard a bit about Poland and Germany, for example.
Does anyone have experience with this topic?
Is the quality better or worse than in Sweden? Are there significant price differences on items?

Yes, many questions about this :)
Grateful for answers from all of you...

Someone must be able to help me? Very very grateful for answers! :)

is there really no one on byggahus who knows?????

Expect that Poland is cheaper for most things, and the Germans for doors, windows, etc. However, when you add the cost of a truck, it becomes questionable. Polish companies in Sweden often bring in building materials from Poland, but they have their own old trucks, contacts, and basically only work with that concept in Southern Sweden.

Google and check Ebay.de as a start.

I've heard about someone who usually builds mountain cabins in northern Sweden and often takes his two trucks to Russia to buy materials. I think it's mostly about roofing, flooring, windows, doors, and such. Having his own transport might be a prerequisite for it to be profitable.

Probably need to be much larger volumes than for a garage to really be profitable. However, it is worth checking out ordering individual items online, such as roofing felt/underlay and other roofing details from http://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/ in England. It becomes cheaper with a lot of things even with the shipping cost. Otherwise, the tip is to be a good negotiator in Sweden, so you can get quite a good price compared to list prices.... for standard items, just make a complete shopping list on Byggmax's website and go to the local supplier you have and ask if they can match it... which they often can actually...

Visited a log home manufacturer in Denmark a couple of years ago. They were working on two things: they had a forest and grew Christmas trees, and then they built log homes.

Despite having their own forest, all the wood was imported from Russia. But no one told us that; we heard it from the neighbor who mentioned all the Russian trucks that came and loaded logs there.
