Hi, the question is in the title, but anyway - I've cut and primed MDF sides and shelves for the bookshelf I'm going to set up. No paint where I’m going to glue, of course. 4mm plywood at the back.

I thought I’d prime and paint with the finishing paint once unassembled, then finish paint when it's up, as I always do with moldings. I think it gives a more built-in look when you paint over joints, etc.

But now, noticing how quickly you can paint the boards unassembled, I'm having doubts. Is it really worth the trouble to do the final coat when the shelf is assembled? (extra hard lacquer paint probably with a short "open time" which doesn't make it easier for an amateur). Is it even something that's normally done or just something I came up with?

Sigh, autocomplete changed "Slutstryka" to "Slitstyrka" in the headline..
