Building your own vanity, choice of materials?
Hello!
I am about to build a vanity for our bathroom. I already have a washbasin to start from, so I really just need to build a cabinet. We will have the cabinet lacquered when it's finished. What I'm considering now is what material to use? Can I simply use veneered chipboard that everything in stores seems to be made of? MDF isn’t particularly water-resistant, but that might matter less for a vanity. Glued laminated timber is another option I've looked at.
I would appreciate any tips I can get.

Why not Valchromat? Water-resistant, through-colored, so you might not even need to send it for painting. With wax or hard wax oil, it looks super nice.
I think you should avoid MDF and chipboard. I have an IKEA Hemnes cabinet with MDF drawer fronts. Honestly, it looks terrible after a few years with small children. In our case, in my family, if something can get water-damaged in the bathroom, it will happen... but... With a more adult and orderly household, it might be different.Pjotski said:
I'll throw in a thought here... I want to build a vanity unit from glass blocks, two low walls parallel to each other with a shelf for the sink and a shelf underneath. Has anyone here built something similar?Pjotski said:

What I'm pondering now is what material to use? Can I simply use foil-covered chipboard since everything in stores seems to be made of it? MDF is not particularly water-resistant, but maybe it matters less when it comes to a vanity unit. Laminated wood boards are another option I've considered.
I would gladly receive any tips I can get.
