I am planning to build a porch for our caravan that will be stationed at a ski resort this winter.
It will have 4 walls (some opt for 3 and fully open towards the caravan) and I am hesitating a bit between building it ready at home and then transporting it on a truck, or building it in sections and transporting it myself piece by piece...
I am currently leaning towards building in sections if I can come up with a nice practical solution to easily assemble everything on site.
The porch will be insulated with cell foam and will have horizontal paneling and corner boards. One idea has been to let the panel end a few centimeters inside the corner board and find a solution there for screwing everything together. Then you would only need to remove the corner boards if moving the porch.
Does anyone have smart tips on how to get a nice, practical solution for screwing the walls to the floor, walls to walls, and roof to walls?
I built a porch (2.5x4.2m) 250 km from the seasonal site. I made a total of 8 modules (4 walls, floor, and three roof sections).
The frame was made of 95x45 with a horizontal 120x45 floor joist (to be able to fasten the walls to the floor with angled screws). The corners were screwed together with long wood screws. Fjällpanel, 1x1 m window on one wall. Exterior door from Blocket. (The window and door were installed on site, mainly to facilitate handling)
Transport: The plan was to manufacture the cabin at home and then disassemble it. (Floor at the bottom, long walls, short walls, and roof modules, in one stack)
A trailer with a 1-ton axle gives some limitations so I made the journey in two trips.
Volume-wise, it probably wouldn't have worked to take everything in one go anyway. 2.5 meters wide, and a total height on the second load that was taller than myself. The hardest to load was the floor module. It was definitely the heaviest.
Assembly: Weight-wise, it was manageable for two people with a bit of consideration. Insulation and metal roof were installed on site. That was definitely a good choice. The middle module was quite heavy anyway, and the metal wouldn't have been straight afterward. (The metal roof would also have required substantial overhang on some edges since the covering width is 1.0 meter which doesn't match with c-c 60 on the "modules")
Lessons learned: A lot to think about when building something 250 km from home. A broom wasn't obvious to pack when planning the load but very good to have...
