As the title reveals, I am going to build an enclosure for these animals...
I was wondering what you think about building with 45*45 battens, is it too flimsy?
I then thought of having chicken wire around everything but I'm wondering if the rabbit can get out or worse, if the dog can get in?

What do you think?

Rabbits don't need much to stay in place. It's much worse "the other way around," meaning keeping the foxes away from the rabbits. Foxes have an incredible ability to get in. Fences should be buried several decimeters into the ground to keep these creatures away.

Well, but I don't think they would voluntarily run into a yard with 4 hunting dogs...

the question is just how to do it as well as possible... the chicken wire is 90cm wide... should you then place a stud every 90 centimeters or go for every 2 meters and try to fasten the nets together with something like wire...?

the dimensions for the enclosure should be 5x7 meters and 2 meters high... then it should be easiest to have the net from floor to ceiling...

or anyone who has done this before or just generally has some tips?

would the quails manage to get out of it??
I hardly think so... I went and looked at a pen this week and they had chicken wire for their quails...

No, I was thinking about the rabbits and the smaller version of them that usually appear if there are some large rabbits in the cage at the same time..... :D

oh! ha ha, no it won't be a cuckoo's nest ;D ...they are two hens...

Yes, some friends of ours thought so too... ::) And since the children had already become so attached to the rabbits, there were expensive visits to the vet to neuter the male. Despite that, there were quite a number of litters before everything was sorted out. ;)

To return to your original question, I think you should set the rails/posts at 90 cm intervals. It will definitely be the easiest and nicest. 45x45 sounds a bit flimsy, are you sure it won't be wobbly with those that are 2 meters high? Some diagonal cross braces between the posts might stabilize the whole thing.

How were you thinking of fastening the posts in the ground? Is this enclosure temporary for the summer or more permanent? That also has some bearing on the building technique.

so, now the construction is almost finished, it ended up using 45x45 timber with 1.5 m between the posts and it IS stable.... works really well, there is a horizontal beam that the others stand on...
eventually it will probably rot but.... that day .... that grief...
