I am going to demolish a wall and have received quotes, but I am stuck waiting for a response from the municipality regarding whether I need to submit a building notification or not.

According to the municipality from which I obtained the drawings, they cannot determine if the wall is load-bearing or not and have asked me to submit a building notification along with construction drawings from a structural engineer.

When I speak with the municipality, they recommend that I contact a structural engineer, which is not easy in Borås since there are none here, and additionally, a structural engineer costs a tremendous amount of money.

The three companies that have provided me with quotes assume that it is load-bearing and will place a suitable beam with supports on the sides. These companies raise their eyebrows when I explain what the municipality requires from me in terms of a building notification and engineering drawings to demonstrate that the beam has the right load-bearing capacity, etc. for the wall, and they think it is far-fetched for such a small wall that is to be demolished.

The wall to be demolished is about 1.4 meters wide and is located almost in the middle of the house, I'll attach the drawings I have received.

So I am questioning whether it is really necessary to do a building notification with engineering drawings and the whole story, or if I should just let the work begin directly.

What do you think?

I have circled the wall on the ground floor that is to be demolished.
And the circled area on the upper floor is the entire wall that remains.
Floor plan showing a red-boxed area on both levels, highlighting the wall planned for removal in a house renovation project.

If the wall is load-bearing, a building notification is required. So you hire a structural engineer to determine this.

And where can I find a structural engineer?

.
And what do you think it costs if you make a mistake and the house collapses?
The engineers are not "incredibly expensive", it's not a particularly qualified job. Any newly graduated construction engineer should be able to handle it in half an hour.

The wall does not appear to be load-bearing. The transverse wall in the middle of the house looks load-bearing.

How thick is the wall?

The wall is approximately 15-16 cm thick.

Tricky

Ask one of the construction firms if they have any contact who can do calculations. Then they can be responsible for both construction and dimensioning.

If it is a load-bearing wall
