Building cabinets on site, floor to ceiling. The cabinet will be 2.7 m high, all boards are 2.4 m. How would you do it?
As the title states, I'm building a custom cabinet in the kitchen. It will go from floor to ceiling and will thus be about 268-272 cm tall (in an old house).
It's narrow and tall in shape, only 40 cc between studs at its widest point, so I don't need much board.
What would you cover it with? I want to paint it afterward. But what would otherwise be standard, like MDF, only comes in sheets that are 1200 or 2440 mm. The only thing available in stores that is longer is gypsum, which works but doesn’t feel very exciting. Sure, you can use several smaller sheets, but then you have to fill a seam that I doubt will look nice in the long run when the house shifts a bit over the years.
There will be an external IKEA Bodbyn door attached. This also makes gypsum a bit awkward since it becomes OSB + gypsum (= 22.5 mm) before you reach the stud work to attach the hinge.
Edit: when I Google around, råspånt comes up as a suggestion in similar threads, but that can’t be a good option, can it?

It is possible to buy (order) longer sheets at a reasonable construction store. This store, for example, seems to sell in lengths up to 2800mm. https://www.trabutiken.se/shop/mdf-skivor-15748p.htmltorparavgrund said:

The only thing available in stores that is longer is gypsum, and it works but doesn't feel very fun. Sure, you can take several smaller sheets, but then you need to fill a joint which I doubt will look nice in the long run when the house has moved a little after a few years.

Does that side have to be unbroken then? In the past when things like this were built, you had to use what you had and some moldings//bands ended up there for given reasons.
That's certainly true, I could take 2 pieces of 1200 mm boards and put a nice molding over. So simply solved.S Stefan1972 said:
Now that you mention it, it seems so obvious, but see how lucky we are to have forums that can help us understand when we've been fixated on something.
