Building a stair railing

Planning to install a railing on the stairs, does anyone have any good tips on how to make it sturdy? I'm thinking mainly about the attachment to the floor of the posts. I'd rather avoid having a couple of long posts up to the ceiling, which would indeed be sturdy and solid, but we don't think it looks nice. Otherwise, it's just me and my wife in the house, so no kids to worry about
Anyone with any suggestions?

What does it look like under the floor? I assume you have some kind of beam underneath you can screw into, and the best option is probably to have a support beam at the bottom to place the posts on. You can then screw the posts into the support beam from underneath and then screw the support beam through the floor into the beam. You should then also attach everything to the wall.

Can you imagine one in wrought iron, it will be stable if it can be screwed into the floor and the wall.....

Yes, there are plenty of screwing possibilities in the floor. I have thought similarly too.

No, how sturdy it becomes entirely depends on the fastening since it's such short lengths and the height probably doesn't exceed a meter or so. Unless you're using very small dimensions for the timber. Suitable, for example, would be posts in 45x70.

It is precisely fastenings that I primarily wish for tips on...does anyone have another alternative than the one mentioned in the first answer?

70*70/90*90 post. Screwed in with those screws with threads at both ends. Available at the hardware store, think double-ended screw.

Here's how I did it. 80x80, made from 4 planed 21x95 pieces that I glued together. 2 of them extend down the side of the stringer and are, as seen, screwed from the side. The other two are angled and stand on the stringer. They are attached with 2 8mm dowels with glue down into the stringer. This is incredibly sturdy!

I have indeed made the post myself, but since you have a flat floor, it should be possible to saw from a finished post as well.
