Hi, I have some leftover timber from building my house and I've built a deck of 11.5 square meters. Now I'm considering building a small shed of about 5 square meters and I'm wondering if I can build it directly on the deck and thus have the deck as the floor of the shed..? And if that works, is there anything specific I should consider in the construction?

Why wouldn't it work to have the deck as the floor?
Pressure-treated sill might be good since I assume there's a risk of water collecting on the deck.

It works, but make sure to properly separate the floor of the shed from the terrace, otherwise water will get in during rain and snowmelt.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I was planning to build the frame with treated wood but use the existing deck as the floor of the shed. I read your response as suggesting that I should lay a floor on top of the frame instead. Is that correct, and why would that be preferable? I should add that this is my first time trying to build something...🙄

Separate the deck floor and the shed and its floor with a gap of at least one cm to reduce the risk of moisture from the deck floor entering the shed. The same usually applies to people who build sunrooms on existing decks; if they don't separate the floors properly, they often encounter issues with rain and meltwater coming in.
