Building a "crawl space" on asphalt idiotic?

Hello!

I have a large outbuilding that's insulated according to all the rules in the walls and ceiling, except the floor, which is made of uninsulated asphalt. It's even and nice and seems to have good groundwork underneath.

I'm planning to build a small overnight apartment in a small part of the outbuilding. It's a budget project.

With the risk of being criticized by all the "real" craftsmen, here comes the question:

Can I build a 1-meter-high "crawl space" directly on the asphalt and then insulate the floor joists, which would then be about 1 meter up from the asphalt?

Will surely work excellently, can't see any downside to it. Why as high as a meter?

To make the ceiling height more reasonable in the apartment, I want it to be economical to heat with an air source heat pump.

You write directly on asphalt. The only place it might be a problem is right at the rule directly against the asphalt.

But there you just go in between with something like tar paper. Sounds even pretty easy to arrange.
