Building a bridge in glulam was not so smart.
Just saw the pictures from the accident in Norway, we hope no one else ended up in the water. The pictures also clearly show that glulam was not the best material for building an outdoor bridge. https://www.svt.se/nyheter/utrikes/bro-har-kollapsat-i-norge

There's probably nothing wrong with the material per se, but it likely requires more maintenance than anyone anticipated.......Someone probably trusted the supplier's promises about something.........often some miracle treatment.
The paint on the Sundsvall Bridge was supposed to last forever too. Had to be repainted right after construction.

There are quite a few wooden bridges of various kinds with and without glued laminated timber, so it's not particularly surprising that something happens; steel and concrete bridges collapse from time to time. One thinks it should never happen, but it still does.
