Hello
I'm planning to build a balcony and would like tips on how to think about mounting and dimensions. I have no clue how to calculate load, etc...
The idea is to build the balcony about 2.5x2m, and to relieve the log structure by placing "support legs" on the balcony.
It's a horizontal log structure, and I also have to cut out for the balcony door.
Are 10x10cm square supports sufficient? I can place anything from 2 pieces to more...
How to secure the mounting to the log wall?
What dimension would you choose for the balcony frame?

I could describe how it was at my house, so you know how not to do it...

But that wasn't what you asked about.

Yes, if they are not too long (more than one floor). As a beam at the front edge, you need 45x220 C 24 timber. For floor joists between the beam and the log wall, 45x145 C 24 is sufficient. Balconies must be dimensioned for a so-called useful load (people and possibly furniture) of 3.5 kN/sqm, i.e. approximately 350 kg/sqm, which is quite a lot.
