Hi!
We are in the process of completely renovating a 1960s split-level house. We have removed all the floors and subfloors on the floors (i.e., the upper floor where the entrance/kitchen/living room is) and installed new subfloors with underfloor heating in what will become the kitchen/living room. The construction consists of steel beams with 60 cc from Granab that are attached to the concrete slab, and on top of this, we have installed a 21mm thick open slat floor with underfloor heating pipes in between (according to Upponor’s instructions). We will then install parquet flooring on this.
My question is what we do with a kitchen island. It will be heavy with granite as a countertop 1.2 x 2.4 m. We have been advised to install a plywood board directly on the open slat floor (i.e., no parquet under the kitchen island) and screw the board to the steel beams (we built with cc 30 under the kitchen island), then we plan to screw the kitchen island's feet to the plywood board. My question is whether this will be a good construction? How thick should the plywood board be? There are different types of plywood, can anyone recommend the right type?
Thanks in advance for the response!
Andrew
