I have lots of electrical cables in a cable ladder and water pipes in the ceiling in the basement that I want to enclose but still be able to unscrew. Wondering if 6 mm MDF would work? Or would that be a bad idea?

We have pipes enclosed in 6mm MDF in the basement. First, there is a frame screwed together from roof battens (25x35mm) around the pipes, and then the sheets are screwed onto the frame. It's a bit "clunky," but as long as no one plays drums with the pipes, I think it works well.

The fact that they are screwed also means that you can unscrew the sheets if you need to do maintenance or check something, and then just screw them back up again.

Exactly what I'm looking for. You don't happen to have any pictures? :)

Right now everything is dialed down, including most of the sommen, since I am renovating the basement, but I will see if I can get a picture of the remnants that are still there.

Too bad, but did you build it yourself?

No, it was the previous (previous-previous?) owner who built them, probably in the 70s. I'm thinking of screwing everything back on when I'm done, and repainting them. Right now, there's a hideous wallpaper on them.
