Hi,

I have two rooms (about 30 sqm) without a load-bearing wall in between, with a ceiling height of 3.70 meters. I am considering building another floor as an upper floor/loft. The rooms are about 2.5 meters wide.

Has anyone done something similar?
What's the best way to do it? (What ceiling height do you suggest for each floor?)
What could the approximate cost be?
What type of stairs should I choose?
Tips on affordable and skilled craftsmen in Stockholm for this kind of work.

Many thanks for all the advice!

/Kalle

Hello

I don't think you should build lower than 2.40. Even with that ceiling height, the room will feel cramped. It feels a bit tight if you're trying to fit two floors into 3.70. Keep in mind that the floor between the floors also adds a bit.

You might be able to set up a sleeping loft, but I would advise you to forget the possibility of a desk or anything other than sleeping up there.

Why not a desk, etc.? Does the floor become too wobbly? I had been considering a loft bed + walk-in closet, etc.

Thanks for your advice!

If you're going to have a ceiling height of 2.40 meters down there, it leaves just over a meter upstairs. To have a desk upstairs, you probably need at least 1.50 meters in ceiling height if you can accept crawling halfway there, and then you'll only have 3.70-1.50-0.15= 2.05m in ceiling height downstairs. But sure, if you can live with that...

I would find that 2.05m downstairs plus having to crawl to get to the desk makes it not worth it.

Wise.

Maybe should reevaluate the construction...

Build a bunk bed instead.

Sleeping loft.....
2400 lower floor, 200 mm intermediate floor, 1100 sleeping loft with full railing or glass front...

Well, I’m only 1.70 myself, so for my part, 2 meters for the ceiling is fine, but think about lighting and similar things that hang down from the ceilings.

Stop joking now! even doors are 2.10....

You can't live like this!

But I'm 1.93 :)

I have a 1.9 ceiling on my upper floor. (old small house) And it feels very cramped even though I can stand upright there. Works well as a bedroom but nothing else.
