I am completely renovating my cast iron stove (Husqvarna no 15) and need to create a surface for it to stand on. Initially, I considered buying firebrick that can withstand heat, but now I'm unsure. Shouldn't chimney bricks with a surface of about 3-4 cm directly under the stove with fireproof mortar be sufficient?

Is it overkill to use firebrick!? I think the heat rises upward, even though the iron itself gets hot.

The question is also how far downward the heat spreads from a heated stove..?

It is possible to have trå underneath, it doesn't create any special heat there, but according to the rules, it should be non-combustible underneath and is good for bearing capacity. It should be suitable with 30 cm on the sides and back, and in the front, you should have at least 0.5 meters so no embers can come onto the wooden floor. There is probably some sheet metal accessory that meets the rules, otherwise a svartplåt from a metalworker.

The common practice was to place them on masonry made of regular bricks laid with lime mortar. Nowadays, regular mortar works excellently.

Have some lecablock left over.. Will these work? But I was thinking of having fireproof mortar on top, at least a centimeter thick.
