What kind of mortar should I use to lay lightweight concrete blocks to build a fireplace that will have a new insert? Can I use the same mortar for the rendering as well?
Someone at work mentioned lime cement for both the masonry and rendering, is that what I should be using?
Yes. "Puts- och murbruk C", "Mur- och putsbruk B", "Gullex murbruk M 2,5" are some common types of lime-cement mortar that are excellent for both building and plastering such a construction.
I'm building up a wall where I will lay a slab to place the insert on, but does anyone have a suggestion on what I should make the slab out of? The easiest would be a sheet material that you can plaster, but maybe I should build it up with Leca blocks?
